Jul 24, 2015 · The relatively basic 383 test engine has a set of Gil Mink–ported World Products Sportsman iron heads with a 10.5:1 CR. The cam is one of my hot street-spec hydraulic flat-tappet grinds. As you can see, it produces 536 hp and that’s pretty respectable output for an engine like this.

Nov 24, 2009 · Vortec heads can be installed on an older block, the tricky part is the intake manifold as the intake bolts are not the same pattern or specifically angle. There are several aftermarket Vortec type heads also available, but you actually can get a set of Vortec's pretty cheap now.
I used those same plugs (MR43LTS) on my Vortec headed motor with a ZZ4 cam and don't have any problems. I'm pretty sure that the Vortec heads take the same plugs as the ZZ4 fast burn heads. I haven't toasted or bent any yet.

Hey folks, I picking up a late model vortec 350 with heads. Ive have an eagle 1 pc rear main 383 crank that Im gonna use in it. The local speed shop has a new ZZ4 cam for $125. I know I have to change valve springs for clearance for the bigger cam.
The best 68-69 383 engine was available on the road runner and coronet superbee. It made, some say underrated, 335 hp thanks to a number of high-performance 440 parts . It received the recontoured 440 heads with larger exhaust valves of 1.74", compared to standard 1.60" exhaust valves.

Fastburn heads. All 350 and 383 crate engines that had the 210cc Fastburn heads except for the Circle Track CT-400 have all been discontinued. Kinda weird since just last year the Fastburn heads p/n 19300955 got a makeover increasing their output and also got the LS6/LS3 Beehive spring upgrade.
